Who this ship suits

Destiny suits families who want a short Disney cruise from South Florida, with time on Disney Castaway Cay or Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. She suits children who love the characters and parents who want a ship where dinner, shows and kids' clubs are all organized for them.

She suits couples without children less well. There are adult-only spaces on Disney ships, but the whole ship is designed around families.

The ship itself

Destiny is the third ship of her design, after Disney Wish and Disney Treasure. She was built at the Meyer Werft yard in Papenburg, Germany, and runs on liquefied natural gas. Disney lists her at about 144,000 gross tons, 4,000 passengers and 1,555 crew. That is about 36 gross tons per guest and about 2.6 guests per crew member.

Her theme is Disney, Pixar and Marvel heroes and villains, and a Spider-Man sculpture sits on the stern.

Cabins

Destiny has 1,246 staterooms. Ninety percent are outside cabins, 76 percent have a verandah, and 123 are inside cabins. Concierge guests have their own category: 53 concierge staterooms and 23 concierge suites.

Dining

Dinner rotates. Each night your group eats at one of three restaurants with the same serving team throughout: Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, which is new on this ship; Worlds of Marvel; and 1923, which celebrates Disney animation. Café Megara and Café Merida are walk-up cafes off the Grand Hall, and Edna A La Mode Sweets sells ice cream and treats.

What to know before you book

• Destiny, Wish and Treasure share a design. If you have sailed one, the layout will be familiar; the theming and some restaurants differ.
• She sails from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, not Port Canaveral. Plan your flights and hotel around that.
• We have not verified her kids'-club age bands or her accessible-cabin counts. Check both with Disney Cruise Line before booking.
