Celebrity Xcel (2025) is the fifth ship in Celebrity''s Edge-series, which includes Celebrity Edge (2018), Apex (2020), Beyond (2022), and Ascent (2023). Each successive Edge-series ship has refined the class''s defining features: Infinite Verandas, The Retreat for suite guests, Eden''s three-story glass atrium, and the Magic Carpet (an outdoor floating platform that moves between decks). Xcel carries the same ~2,910-guest capacity as its predecessors and primarily sails Caribbean and Mediterranean itineraries. As the newest Edge-series ship, it represents the class in its current most polished state.
The Edge-series has become Celebrity''s flagship design statement — the line''s answer to the question of what a premium cruise ship should feel like in the 2020s. Infinite Verandas (the movable glass wall that can fully open the cabin to the outside) arrived on Celebrity Edge in 2018 as a polarizing innovation and by Xcel''s launch had become a trusted format that the line''s regular guests seek out specifically.
The Retreat — Celebrity''s all-inclusive suite tier — has expanded with each successive Edge-series ship. On Xcel, The Retreat occupies dedicated forward decks with a private pool, sun deck, Retreat Lounge, and Luminae restaurant (serving a menu available only to Retreat guests). The value calculation for Retreat guests competes favorably with ultra-luxury lines at similar price points: full ship access plus private facilities, all-inclusive dining and beverages, and personal butler service, at a per-day cost that typically undercuts Seabourn or Regent by 25–40%.
Eden — the three-story glass atrium at the stern — has become one of the most watched spaces in contemporary cruising. The combination of a genuinely distinctive architecture (curved glass walls, three floors of interconnected balconies, panoramic ocean backdrop) and an entertainment program built around the space rather than imported into it (performers work within the architecture, not on a stage set up inside it) makes Eden a difficult space to describe without sounding like marketing copy. It is worth the trip.
The guest who fits Celebrity Xcel: experienced travelers who have sailed Celebrity before and specifically want the current Edge-class flagship experience. First-time Celebrity cruisers who have researched the Infinite Veranda format and want it. Couples and adults prioritizing design, cuisine (Luminae, Raw on 5 specialty seafood, Fine Cut steakhouse), and Mediterranean access. Families can sail Xcel — Celebrity is not adult-only — but the ship''s programming emphasis is firmly toward the adult experience.
