It is open Tuesday to Sunday, closes for lunch from 12:30 to 2 pm, and full-price admission was €5.50.
- In the town, the collegiate church of Notre-Dame was reworked between the 12th and 16th centuries, and the half-timbered Maison du Temps Jadis dates from the 15th century.
History
Vernon's military role ended in 1204, the year Normandy passed to the French crown.
- King Philip II Augustus then let one of his followers put a watermill on Vernon's bridge, and six mills were grinding wheat there in the 18th century.
- A dam completed downstream in October 1849 stopped the four watermills that were left.
- The bridge that carried the Old Mill was destroyed during the Second World War, and the mill still straddles two of its piers.
- Claude Monet made Giverny his home from 1883 to 1926. The house and gardens were restored in the late 1970s.
- Vernon's museum was founded in 1862 with a gift of some 2,000 stuffed birds, moved into a former private mansion in the old center in 1983 and took the name Blanche Hoschedé-Monet in 2024.
