What to Expect
Ships come in at piers in the middle of Honningsvåg, all of them about a five-minute walk from the town center.
- The port has six piers, two of them for tenders. Larger ships sometimes anchor and bring passengers ashore by tender.
- The terminal has visitor information, two souvenir shops, public toilets and free Wi-Fi.
- The town's main shops, bars and restaurants are close to the piers.
Getting to the North Cape
The North Cape is about 34 km from Honningsvåg, roughly half an hour each way by bus.
- In winter, the road to the North Cape can run as a convoy behind a snowplow.
- A public bus runs to the North Cape daily all winter. It is cancelled more often than other routes because the cape is so exposed to the weather.
- Bad weather can slow or stop the trip, so leave a margin before all-aboard time.
Tipping and Money
Tipping is not common in Norway, apart from bars and restaurants, where people tip for good service, usually 5 to 15 percent of the bill.
- There is no fixed amount, and nobody will mind if you leave nothing.
- Norway's currency is the krone (NOK). Foreign currency is rarely accepted.
- Cards and phone payments are taken almost everywhere, but a little cash helps with small purchases.
The North Cape and the Midnight Sun
The North Cape visitor center is on the northern side of Magerøya, and adult entry was 350 NOK in 2025.
- Hours change through the year, and in summer it stays open until about 1 am. Check before you go.
- The North Cape Museum is beside the harbor where the ships dock, so it fits into even a short call.
- The midnight sun lasts from May 14 to July 29.
